FAQ

Where will the competition take place?

FiCT 2012 will take place at Camps Bay High School, Lower Kloof Rd, Camps Bay, Cape Town.

What are the times of competition?

Exact times are not yet determined and will depend on the exact number of participants. Start will be approximately 7am, finish around 5.30pm.

Will I be competing the entire week end?

There will be NO preliminary rounds. This means that all individual athletes will compete in all individual events and all team athletes will compete in all individual AND all team events.

What are the events of the competition?

The exact events of the competition will only be revealed after registration closes.

But then I do not know what to prepare for?

Exactly. Make sure you are ready for anything. That is what fitness is about, right?

But can’t we get any hints?

Ok, all right. The events might be similar to those of past CrossFit Games. You can have a look at the entire CrossFit Games 2010 Video library for ideas. Now these events are set up for the fittest on Earth. The Fittest in Cape Town competition will thus have “easier” and less complex events.

Like what?

We are not planning any events with exclusive requirements. For instance, it will be helpful to know Olympic Weightlifting technique, but it is not a must for participating or doing well. There are however a few things that you should be able to do: For instance, you have to know how and be able to squat. Believe it or not: If you cannot sit down or stand up, it is very unlikely you are one of the fittest folks around.

Will there be weight classes? I do not want to compete against people that are heavier/ligther than I am.

No. There will not be different weight classes. As there will be combinations of absolute weights and bodyweight movements being used, there will be no real advantage of being heavier or lighter.

Will there be a team competition?

Yes. 2 women and 2 men form a team. All team members will still compete in the individual events, but in addition, they will be ranked as a team and participate in a number of team events for the title “Fittest Team/Gym in Cape Town”.

I would like to compete in the CrossFit Games 2012 and compete for the title Fittest in Earth(TM). Does it help to compete in the Fittest in Cape Town competition?

Even though Fittest in Cape Town is a competition that uses the same definition of Fitness, it is neither linked nor functions as a qualifying event to the CrossFit Games. In order to qualify for the CrossFit Games, you will need to qualify through the Open and the CrossFit Games Africa Regionals later this year.  The Fittest in Cape Town may, however, be a great preparatory event for the CrossFit Games season.
