On February 11, 2012, athletes will compete in a number of workouts/events. Whoever does best on average in all of these workouts will be crowned Fittest in Cape Town. Being fit also means being ready for the unknown and doing well at any random physical task. In FiCT 2012, there will be individual AND team events. If athletes chose to only compete as individuals, they are in contention for Fittest man/woman only. If they chose to be part of a team, they will be able to compete in additional team event(s) and battle for the title Fittest team/gym, as well.
Individuals, teams and gyms 2012
Each competitor will get a chance to compete in all individual events of FiCT 2012. These individual events will determine the Fittest man/woman of the competition. On top of that, athletes will be able to form teams and compete in additional team events. The combined score of individual results and team score will determine the Fittest team of the competition. A team consists of 2 women and 2 men and has to be announced upon signup for the competition. Once the competition has started, teams cannot be changed. A gym can sign up a number of teams who will all be in contention for the title. The gym who hosts the Fittest team can claim the title “Fittest Gym”. Example: “Underground Gym” has 8 athletes (4 women, 4 men) competing. Each athlete has the chance to win the individual title. The athletes managed to organize themselves into 2 teams, the “Wild Cats” and the “Tame Cats”, both teams are in contention of “Fittest Team”. If any of them wins, “Underground Gym” can also claim “Fittest Gym”.
Movement standards & judging
The exact details of the events will not be revealed until just before the competition. If the workouts/events were known ahead of time, it would be easy just to prepare for these specific exercises. While the exact events will remain a mystery until just before the competition, the movement standards of the exercises will be revealed ahead of time, where necessary – in order to ensure that athletes are clear on what will be expected on them. FiCT judges who will be familiar with the standards will ensure adherence to the movement standards on the day of competition.
Scaling & recommendations
There will be no scaling of the events for any competitor. In the unlikely event of an exception, athlete in question will be out of contention for the title. The events will be designed in a way, that most everyone will be able to compete in them at some level. However, to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into, here is a list of recommendations that should give an idea of what may be expected the athletes:
- Deadlift 100kg(men)/60kg (women)
- Push ups (consecutive) 15/5
- Pull ups (consecutive) 5/1
- Squats (no weight, consecutive) 50/50
- Double unders 5/5
- Row 2,000m under 7m30s / 9m
